2023 Richardson RC Club SPA
Contest
2023 SPA Spring Opener Richardson Radio Control Club The first SPA contest for the Richardson Radio Control Club turned out to be successful. There was good help from club members making it a fun event. Turnout was light due to a conflict in events. Several flyers from the Thunderbird club were helping flyers at the SAE Payload event at their club. They were missed. The weather started out nicely and in the 80s then winds turned ugly as the day progressed. Favorable winds 10-15 from the south turned to ugly crosswinds 15-20 from the west northwest. The crosswinds made for some extremely challenging flying. Nathan Hancock in sportsman flying a Super Kaos did well and we look forward to him moving up. Newcomer Reed Smith flew well in advance for his first time out with a scratch-built Intruder. Winds whipping over the tree line from the west caused a lot of white knuckled flights and landings causing a few broken props. Todd Blose had the misfortune of losing his scratch built Tarmen, an original designed by his father Max Blose from the 70s, went in on his first flight from a radio issue. The plane went into some dense foliage and is still not found as of this writing. He later had a flame out on his back up and had minor damage to the tail on landing. Contestant standings were:

All in all, considering the conditions, there was some good flying done. We will be looking forward to RRCC hosting this event in the future. Wayne Galligan, CD |
