The first Dallas RC Club Senior Pattern Contest is in the books and what a great event it turned out to be. We had close to perfect conditions with upper 80’s low 90’s temps and lite and variable winds. We could fly in either direction in the morning but in the afternoon the winds shifted more to the north.

We started flying around 9:45 and had to battle the sun for the first round but after that the sun was not an issue. The second round was completed around 12:30 and we broke for lunch. In the afternoon we decided to setup a second flight line so we could get 4 rounds in before it got too late. That worked beautifully.

Basic was flown by two great gentlemen, Richard Tibbitts (form Arkansas) and Robert Petrinec. Both flew well with Robert taking the win.

Sportsman had two pilots, Chris Siggins and Frank Cox. This was Chris’s first pattern contest and flew very well. Frank had engine problems and could only start the 4th round. Better luck next time Frank.

Advanced had three pilots. Chris Berardi, Mike Clements and Max Blose. Chris was on fire and took 3 out of 4 rounds. Nice flying Chris. Mike Clements took 2nd and Max Blose took 3rd.

Expert had four pilots, Wes Lewis, Chuck Lee, Wayne Galligan and Perry Bartlett. This was a very competitive class with all the pilots putting in good flights. Wayne was on his way to another 1st place but his motor let loose in round 3. That left it up to Wes and I to win the last round. I decided to fly to the south which was actually downwind. Wes chose to fly to the north and that was a good move. Wes flew very well and took the win. Wayne ended up 3rd and Perry took 4th.

Masters had 3 pilots, Todd Blose, Pat Ensign and Danny Jackson. Masters is always fun to watch because all of these guy’s are great pilots. Todd pulled off another win with Pat close on his heals in second. Danny placed 3rd.

I want to say thanks to all the Dallas RC club members who helped mow and get the field in shape. Special thanks to:

  • John Hughes for cooking lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixins
  • Kevin Carpenter for taking care of the finances
  • Ted Nickels for being the score sheet runner
  • Scott Simms for taking care of the raffle
  • Wes Lewis for helping get everything together

And a big, big shout out and thanks to Leslie Ensign for doing all the data entry, score sheets, printing the trophies and especially for keeping me in line and on point.

Congratulations to Kevin Carpenter on winning the Dirty Birdy kit from Aero Composites.

Hope to see ya’ll next year.

Chuck Lee, CD
