Wichita Falls Radio Control Club (WFRCC) hosted its 2nd Annual SPA event on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Lake Park RC Flying Field in Wichita Falls, Texas. Many thanks to all who competed and all those who helped or just came out to watch and support the contest.
WFRCC again wishes to especially thank Leslie and Pat Ensign from Fort Worth for all of their help and support …before, during, and after the contest. In addition everything else they did to make this happen, Pat made all judging assignments, and Leslie calculated scores and created the awards. Pat and Leslie remain the heart of SPA West. Matt Kirk, a WFRCC member, shadowed Leslie all day and learned more about the scoring program. We are hoping to let Leslie come and just watch next year.

Greg Skinner, a WFRCC member, deserves special recognition for braving the scorching sun and running score sheets to and from the judges to the scorekeeper all day. Though the wind remained light and variable all day, there were no clouds to block the sun, and the temperature topped 100 just about noon.

Sixteen pilots competed this year, four more than last year. Despite the heat, flying was again relaxed and pleasant all day. Reese Inman and Matt Kirk, both from WFRCC, competed for the first time as SPA members. Partly due to the extreme heat and pilot fatigue, and as most flyers were from out of town and faced hours of driving after the contest, we stopped the contest after only three rounds were flown.

The same fantastically delicious charcoaled burgers, hot dogs, and sausage sandwiches were served for lunch. Ken and Frank cook up the best contest food around! Following the presentation of flying awards by yours truly, two Laser Works kits and numerous other goodies were raffled. I hope all those who took part enjoyed themselves and are looking forward joining us again in 2020 for the 3rd Annual WFRCC SPA event.

Overall, the flying was exceptional, and it seemed a good time was had by all! Photographs, scores, and winners are posted elsewhere in the report. Special recognition is again owed to Dusty Bayley for taking and publishing such WONDERFUL photographs of the contest….the perfect contest history.

Only one plane was lost, and that was Jason Nowicki's Kaos the day before the contest. He still stuck around for the entire event. Thanks, Jason!

Til next year, happy trails.
Bob Redmon (SPA #635 and CD in name only)
