Ft Worth Thunderbirds Fall 2019 SPA Contest What a beautiful day for a contest. Winds were light, yes light, skies were clear and temperature only reached 96. The turnout was light also because there was an AMA contest in College Station the same day. Ten pilots got a lot of flying in and we completed 5 rounds of competition in one day. Here is a picture of the pilots, airplanes and helpers.
Jason
Nowicki was the only Novice flyer and he won it going
away.
Speaking of only pilot, Dave Dingman was the only pilot
in Expert but still flew very well.
Sportsman had two pilots with Paul Mahan winning over
Frank Cox.
Frank has a beautiful airplane that he says is very
fast. As
always, Advanced had the most participants with Gary
Alphin taking first place.
Chris Berardi always flies well and took second
place trailing Gary by less than six points.
Eighty-four-year-old Max Blose flew his own
design, Tarman from 1969 and took third.
Senior
Expert had three entrants with longtime AMA pilot Danny
Jackson taking first even though he had a broken
transmitter and used Max Blose’s airplane to complete
the contest.
We
always have great help and we need to thank Brian and
Kelly Alphin and Jeanne Alphin for scorekeeping, data
entry getting the awards ready.
Tab Bowland had great hamburgers and fixins for
everyone.
Ian Waring ran scoresheets for us and Sam Collette
couldn’t fly but came and judged for us all morning.
We had
an OS .65AX for a raffle and Paul Mahan won it.
I’m sure he will put it to good use. Ken Knotts |
